This solid leather hair barrette is handmade out of one piece of quality full-grain Italian cowhide, and is embossed with a Valknut, the symbol of the Norse (Viking) supreme god Odin, and represents the bond between the living and the honoured dead. Odin's magic had the power to bind with fear and unbind with inspiration, and the form of the knot reflects this. The nine-fold symmetry of the knot also corresponds to the nine worlds of the Norse cosmos.

The BLACK and BROWN barrettes are crafted from a softer leather that is drum-dyed, meaning that it is dyed-through for extra resilience against scratches. This also means that the inside is a finished, dyed surface. The RUSSET, AMBER, and WOODGRAIN barrettes are crafted from a firmer leather that I cannot drum-dye, so they are nude and raw on the inside. If you have slippery hair, the nude, raw interior has more grip.
