This handmade knife sheath is crafted from a single, solid piece of full-grain 8 to 9 ounce Italian cowhide. It is an open-top, friction-fit design which adapts to fit a wide range of fixed-blade knives, and we offer it in three standard sizes to allow you to get just the right fit.
This sheath works best with knives that are guardless or feature a small guard, as the guard section of the sheath is designed to insert into the upper portion of the sheath and form a tight fit. The sheath is crafted from a leather that is designed to form to the knife, so it is advisable to slightly wet the leather around the opening, then carefully force the knife in, leaving it in until the leather has dried completely and taken the shape of the knife. In this way it becomes a perfect fit.
The sheath is hand-stitched with thick waxed nylon cord, and the stitching has stitch redundancy, meaning that you must break two adjacent stitches to disrupt the stitch-line. This stitching is reinforced at the high stress points with solid brass or nickel steel rivets. It also features a solid 1/2” to 3/4” leather welt to prevent the blade from cutting the stitches or being damaged by the rivets.
The sheath features a belt loop on the back which is cleverly part of the single body piece of solid leather, maximizing its longevity. We also leave a drain hole at the bottom of the sheath, allowing moisture to escape and lowering the risk of rusting on a damp blade.
- The SMALL sheath is designed to fit knives with up to 4.75” long blades, with the base of the blade and the top of the guard not exceeding 1”. Overall size is approximately 6.75” by 2”, and the belt loop can accommodate belts up to 1.5” wide.
- The MEDIUM sheath is designed to fit knives with up to 6.25” long blades, with the base of the blade and the guard not exceeding 1.5”. Overall size is approximately 8.75” by 2.5”, and the belt loop can accommodate belts up to 1.75” wide.
- The LARGE sheath is designed to fit knives with up to 7.25” long blades, with the base of the blade and the guard not exceeding 1.75”. Overall size is approximately 9.5” by 2.75”, and the belt loop can accommodate belts up to 2” wide.
